What to Expect

Thanks for visiting our website

We are glad that you have visited our website. We realize that visiting a new church can be somewhat intimidating. We hope that our website will provide answers to some of your questions and will make you feel much more confident when you arrive for your first visit with us. Here are answers to some questions that you may have about us.

What kind of a church is this?

Our church family is a group of people who value their relationship with God and with others. All people are welcome. Whether you are a devout Christian or whether you are not sure what you believe, you are welcome at Mt Olivet. Our hope is that when you come, you will sense God’s love in the relationships that you will develop with us. You may be wondering about our beliefs. If so, please click below for our vision & mission statement.

Why would I want to visit?

You will meet a group of people who experience God’s love and honor Him through music, prayer, and reflection on the Scriptures.

You will find a loving group of people who offer friendship and who also support each other in both good and hard times.

There are classes and small group studies to help you learn about the Christian faith, deal with life situations, and to grow in your spiritual relationship with God and one another.

There are also opportunities for you to get involved by volunteering your time and talent to assist others in the local, national and international community who may need help.

How many services do you have

During the fall and spring (when public schools are in session) we offer two Sunday morning worship services (8:30 and 11:00.)
During the summer, we offer one Sunday morning worship service (10:15).

Do you have Sunday School classes?

Yes, there are age-graded classes for all ages from birth through senior adult.

If this is your first time to attend Sunday School, you will want to come to the Welcome Center. Someone will greet you there and take you and your children to age-appropriate classes where you can meet teachers who will provide age-appropriate Bible study and activities in a safe environment.

During the fall and spring (when public schools are in session), Sunday School begins at 9:45 each Sunday morning.
During the summer, Sunday School begins at 9:00 each Sunday morning.

Do you provide a nursery during worship?

There is a very comfortable, safe place just 2 doors down on the right after entering the Welcome Center. Loving adults will care for your children (infants through Age 2). Your child will be able to stay in the nursery during Sunday School and the worship service. Click here to locate nursery.

Is there something for my children during the worship service?

Yes. We do have “Children’s Worship” for children who are between Age 3 through Grade 1. We believe it’s important for younger children to be in the sanctuary with you for the beginning part of the worship service. Midway through the hour-long service, your children (Age 3 – Grade 1) are invited to go with our Children’s Worship Leader to enjoy worship on their own level. They will enjoy music, a Bible lesson, and a craft. You may pick them up after the service across the hall from the nursery in Room Number 103.

What do I wear?

At Mt Olivet you will find an array of dress styles from jeans to suits and everything in between. Whether it is business attire or casual, please do not stress over how you dress. You are welcome as you are.

What time should I show up for worship service?

If you have an infant or preschooler, we ask that you show up at least 15-20 minutes before the service begins so that you can register your child in our wonderful preschool area. We recommend that everyone come a few minutes ahead of time so that you can visit with friends before the service begins.

How do I become a member of Mt Olivet?

Any person professing Jesus Christ as Savior, giving evidence of a changed heart and adopting the views of faith and practice held by this church, having received believer’s baptism by immersion in water, may be received into the membership of this church.
Any person may present himself/herself as a candidate for membership in this church. At the conclusion of any worship service, the pastor will be at the altar as the congregation is singing the last hymn. You may walk from your seat to the front to speak with the pastor who will be more than happy to help you request to become a member of the church. Many people ask to talk with the pastor prior to requesting membership. The pastor will be glad to meet with you wherever is most convenient with you to answer any other questions that you may have about your questions about faith and church membership.
Candidates for membership shall be presented to the church at any regular church service in any of the following ways:

  • By profession of faith and for baptism according to the policies of this church. Should the candidate be physically unable to receive baptism at that time, he/she shall be granted all privileges and responsibilities of full membership. However, if or when the physical disability is removed he/she shall be expected to receive baptism.
  • By promise of letter or recommendation from another church of the Christian faith provided the individual has experienced believer’s baptism by immersion in water. This does not include infant baptism.
  • By restoration upon a statement of prior conversion experience and believer’s baptism in a church of the Christian faith when no letter is obtainable.

Please fill out and return to the church our New Member Information Sheet.
