Mt Olivet is very focused on mission work – expressing God’s love with people through our conversation and our actions.
We have groups for all ages where participants learn about mission work. They get to know and pray for missionaries by name. Participants also are involved in “hands-on” mission projects.
We have 3 age-appropriate groups for children that meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 where they learn about missionaries and the work that they do.
Mission Friends is a group for Preschoolers (Age 3 – Kindergarten).
GA’s (Girls in Action) is a group for girls (Grade 1-5).
RA’s (Royal Ambassadors) is a group for boys (Grade 1-5).
Youth (Grades 6-12) meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 in Room 200. Periodically, the youth will focus on the work of state, national, and international missionaries during their Wednesday evening fellowship & Bible study.
Ruth Evening Circle, led by Janice Igou, is for adult women. This group meets once a month, typically the fourth Monday evening each month. It meets at 6:15 for dinner and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The group focuses on prayer for missions and learning about missions around the world and locally. The group is very involved in local, national, and international mission work. Upcoming projects include: care packages for deployed soldiers; hygience/stationary packages for Fluvanna Correctional Center; Operation Christmas Child; volunteering at the Pregnancy Resource Center’s Annual Gala.
Carrie Rose Ellen Circle, led by Anne Williamson, is for adult women. This group meets once a month, typically the fourth Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. This group focuses on prayer for missions and local mission projects and outreach. Projects include: visiting local nursing homes; baking cookies for Raceway Ministries; volunteering at Mt. Olivet Clothesline; various knitting and sewing projects. (I need to touch base with Anne to find out what projects they have planned for this fall.)
MyMission, led by Missy Stanley, is a combination bible study, prayer support, and hands-on missions work, geared at college aged young women through moms of young children. Projects include: volunteering at WHEAT pantry; assisting with Mt. Olivet Clothesline; Street Prayer Walking; baking cookies for Raceway Ministries; devotion and prayer meeting at Patrick Henry High School to pray for the new school year and students and teachers.
We believe that we must learn about mission work and the missionaries who are located in the United States and throughout the world.
